This refers to Adams sale of 1/8th of his patent royalties to a London banker, Thompson Hankey, for funding his coming expansion. This seems to have come as a result of the so-called Hankey transaction (as Taylorson called it in his book, Adams' revolvers) from mid-1852. Similarly, the 20448Y is the Adams patent number with a range assigned to Tranter for his own sales. Read "patent number" as "the number of parts produced that use this patent", and not the actual patent number filed with the British Patent Office. Norwegian Newbie with a few Adamses as well here.Īfter having collected data on a couple of thousand English revolvers, including Tranters (although I would normally focus on Adamses), it would seem that the stamped 166 is the assembly number of the revolver, whereas the 193a on the trigger is, in fact, the patent number of that part. ![]()
